By definition, tarot card reading is the practice of using tarot cards to answer questions about your past, present, or future. A tarot deck consists of 78 cards divided into two sets known as arcanas. The Minor Arcana comprises four suits with 14 cards each: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. The Major Arcana has 22 cards numbered 0-21, each with a different title, image, and meaning. A card’s position in a spread (when it is drawn and which side is facing up) affects its meaning.
Tarot readings are different from psychic readings in a number of ways. Firstly, tarot reading is designed to give specific answers to specific questions, whereas psychic reading is better for general guidance. Unlike psychic reading, tarot readings are detached from all emotion – providing you guidance solely on the basis of what the cards say. In that way, some people consider tarot to be more precise than traditional psychic readings
Types of Tarot Readings
The great thing about tarot cards are their versatility. They can be used for a range of different things, from answering general questions to understanding highly specific questions about problems like your love life or career.
Here are some of the most common types of tarot reading:
3-Card Spread. This is the simplest of all tarot spreads. It can be used to answer a general question, although it’s best used when you have a specific issue that needs solving.
Celtic Cross Spread. This is the most popular of tarot card spreads. It is more complex than the 3-Card Spread, making it suitable for answering difficult questions. The cross deals with specifics about your past, present, and future. The staff deals with external influences and offers guidance on how to solve your issue.
Zodiac Tarot Spread. Also known as the 12-House Astrology Spread, this spread is best used by sparingly: like when you’re planning out the coming year. The Zodiac Tarot Spread uses 12 cards laid out in a circle. Each card represents a symbol on the zodiac chart, beginning with Aries. In order from 1-12, the cards represent your: identity, resources, environment, family, creativity, health, relationships, secrets, dreams, career, community, and unconscious mind.
Fan Spread. This is useful for doing a general reading rather than answering a specific question or problem. The Fan Spread comprises 22 cards. The first card goes in the middle and represents you. The remaining 21 cards are split into seven groups of three, where each group explains a different part of your life. The Fan Spread is good for getting insights into your character, relationships, hopes and dreams without getting into specifics. The last card offers insights into your future.
